Usman Zafar, Nikhil Dayal and Saransh Yadav, 3rd year students of the Department of Information Technology won 3rd place at the Etisalat Mobile Application Contest 2008.
The contest to develop Mobile Phone Applications organized by Khalifa University and American University in Dubai, sponsored by Etisalat and UAE Telecommunication Regulatory Authority was held at Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai on Saturday, 10th May 2008. 11 other universities from all over UAE such as Abu Dhabi University, Ajman University BITS-Pilani, American University of Sharjah, Higher Colleges of Technology Women’s College, Al Ain participated in this competition.
The Manipal entry was an innovatibe concept " Catch a Cab". This application allows cab drivers to locate a customer by using coordinates sent from the customer's mobile.
The Manipal University students and their supervisor Mr. Jawid Nazir, Sr. Lecturer, Dept. of Information Technology were highly commended on their work. They were also invited top present their idea to Dubai Transport. The students praised the faculty at Manipal University for their support. Usman said "My Chair of the Department, my supervisor Mr. Jawid, other faculty members and fellow classmates have motivated me and this achievement is dedicated to them."
