Activities to look out for at Spectrum '08

Spectrum '08 is an event organised by students of the Department of Media and Communications to showcase their work to the world, the media industry in particular, and seek an understanding of the media industry through interaction with media professionals by way of workshops and seminars.

The two-day event (May 20th - May 21st, 2008) will see a number of activities being held at Manipal University's Dubai Campus.

Day I:
  • Panel Discussion among Media Professionals: Visitors can expect to attend an informative and interesting panel discussion among various media professionals. There will be attendees/speakers from each media sector (Television, Print etc). Each speaker will hold court for about 10-12 minutes, communicating ideas and opinions on any one given topic. There will then be a discussion among the speakers, which will be followed by an interactive session with the audience members.
  • 'Speed Dating Session': This will involve an interaction between the media students and the media head-hunters. Each student will get to meet a number of head-hunters from various media sectors and possibly even procure a placement with one of the companies, based to their choice and apptitude.

Day II:

  • Workshops on various aspects of Communication: Four parallel workshops will be conducted on different aspects of communication. These workshops are open to everyone, but those interested in participating in them must register beforehand. There are limited seats, hence a 'first come, first serve' rule will apply. Participants will be charged a nominal fee for attendance.
  • Counselling Session: This is meant to educate and prepare the final year students for their post-university life. It will teach the graduating lot of students about what they can expect from the media industry and what the industry, in turn, expects from them.
