The child inside

The 'Chillout Antakshari' held at the auditorium on Thursday, brought out the child in every faculty present for the competition and also provided a much needed break from the routine of college life. While competitions and events in the past were held for the student community, the 3rd year students of the Media & Communication Dept. decided to turn the tables and instead put the faculty of the college under the spotlight.

The teams, representing different departments that took part, are as follows:

1) Fashion Ke Fasaane - Ms Jaweria and Ms Biswaroopa
2) IT Ke Deewane - Mr Jawed and Mr Vishwesh Akre
3) Management ke Mastaane - Ms Sitalakshmi and Ms Gurpreet
4) General Studies ke Funtoosh - Ms Zakiya and Ms Huma
5) Admin ke Aashiq - Mr Ashfaq and Mrs Uma Prasad
6) Biotech ke Bindaas - Dr Seema and Dr Archana
7) ID Ke Parwaane - Ms Sara and Ms Tasneem
8) Media ke Mauji - Dr Feroz and Dr Anita
9) Admin ke Afsaane - Mr Avinash and Mr AbdurRehman
10) Management ke Mazedaar - Ms Seena and Mrs Supreet

Antakshari in itself is now an age-old concept, it was truly amazing to see the 10 teams battle it out among themselves to see who would win. While the elimination round-the normal antakshari and the 'Use the Word Round' - saw two teams leave the contest, the heat was immediately turned up a notch to see who would continue to stay in the game.

The third round saw Ashwin Chandran performing mimicry and the contestants having to guess who the actor is and then sing a song featuring the star. This round proved to be much fun as contestants tried hard to be the first to guess. The Dhun or buzzer round saw most of the contestants having major problems in trying to be the first to hit the buzzer, or in this case, blow the whistle. There were of course shouts of foul play by some of the contestants, but the judge's decision was final and the contestants had to accept it. At the end of the day, it was just friendly competition.

The end of these two rounds then witnessed the elimination of the three lowest scoring teams, leaving about five teams to battle it out among themselves. As each round progressed, the competition became more intense, with most teams trying to catch up or beat other teams in terms of points. While final scores were being calculated, Mr. Ashfaq from the Admin department and Rashmi Vijayan entertained the audiences with a musical performance, appreciated by many. The best part of Rashmi's performance of the song 'Maya Maya' may have been the fact that she managed to convince Mr. Javed and Ms. Seena to dance a little to her tunes, thus showing that even professors do know how to have a good time.

The following teams were declared as winners with each winning a different prize:
3rd runners up: Management ke Mazedaar - Ms Seena and Mrs Supreet won tickets to Dubai Autodrome
2nd runners up: Fashion ke Fasaane - Ms Jaweria and Ms. Biswaroopa who received vouchers worth 75/- from Winny's Confectionary and Restaurant
Runners up: Admin ke Afsaane -Mr Avinash and Mr AbdurRehman who won vouchers worth 100/- from Chinese Village

But the winners, 'ID ke Parwane' - Ms Sara and Ms Tasneem each got the chance to enjoy a 2 hour dinner dhow cruise at the Falcon Floating Restaurant for 2.

The show attracted many positive comments about the event with some of them being, 'good break from the daily routine', 'stress relieving', 'awesome fun' and 'well planned'. The general consensus of most of the professors was that more events like this should be organised and praised the Media & Communications department for successfully organising the event. A big hats off to them with expectations of greater events to come.
