SHOOFtv's competitions open to all

Point and Shoot.
That’s all they want you to do! This was the message for all the students from the Shooftv team that visited the MAHE Dubai Campus.

SHOOF, meaning "to see" in Arabic, aptly describes the function of this web interface channel. It has 100% user generated content and is part of the Arab Media Group in the UAE. SHOOFtv invites people from Asia and South Africa to post their personal videos and grab their opportunity to fame and fortune.

Providing a better insight on the website was Mariam Al Sarkal from SHOOFtv who communicated the advantages of being a 'Shoofer' and participating in the art of video making. The session began with an explanation of the organization. "It is related to you," she said adding that videos by amateurs were welcome.

One can easily upload any video they want to showcase to the world and in the process win amazing prizes. SHOOFtv gives anything between Dhs. 30000 to Dhs. 250000 as prizes for its regular competitions including daily cash prizes of $100 for the video that get the maximum hits in a single day. The website also provides tips from professionals to aid fresher’s on how to shoot quality videos.

Gaining phenomenal success on the Internet, SHOOFtv now plans to expand into the TV industry soon by creating a 100% user generated TV station.

SHOOFtv is promoting a new competition in its pipeline, the SHOOFtv Troops. It pits teams against one another to win mega prizes. With a team of 3-5 members, the group that earns the highest points in the challenges such as making mini videos stand a chance to win big. Groups can register at the SHOOFtv website.

SHOOFtv Campus Visit

SHOOFtv a leading online channel visited MAHE, Dubai Campus to introduce their new competition "SHOOFtv Troops" and to interact with over 60 students from the Department of Media & Communications.

SHOOFtv is a web based channel owned by the Arab Media Group in the UAE. SHOOFtv invites entries and showcases 100% user generated videos from Asia and South Africa giving aspiring directors an opportunity to fame and fortune.

The presentation by the SHOOFtv team included an introduction to SHOOFtv and the concept behind the channel before they elaborated on their new competition the "SHOOFtv Troops".

Teams consisting of 3-5 members (troops) have to create mini-videos which are rated by viewers online. The team with the highest points at the end of the competition stand a chance to win big. Many MAHE media students registered as Troops and Junior Brand Ambassadors after the presentation for the competition. All registered students were given a bag filled with goodies by the SHOOFtv team.

Auditions For Intercollegiate Drama

The American College of Dubai is organising Stagestruck 2008, an intercollegiate drama competition, in April 2008.

Students interested in taking part in this competition may come in for auditions
on Wednesday, 27th February during any of the two time
slots - 9am to 11am or 2.30pm to 4pm.

Please note:
Those interested have to come prepared with dialogues for any two contrasting characters. A time limit of one minute each will be allowed.

Venue: College Auditorium

Selections for GMC Sports Fest & BITS Sports Festival begin

The inter-class tournaments for Basketball, Volleyball and Throwball begin next Saturday, 1st March 2008.
Names of representatives for each class will be announced shortly. Interested students can give in their names to him/her.

The college team respresenting MAHE-Manipal,Dubai at the BITS Sports Festival and GMC Sports Fest will be selected from the inter-class and inter-year tournaments being held in March. Practise sessions will continue alongwith on each Saturday of the month - 1st March, 8th March, 15th March, 22nd March and 29th March.

Venue: Dubai Special Needs Club, next to Lulu Hypermarket, Qusais.

Basketball (men) - 1st March
Volleyball - 8th March
Football - 1st March and 8th March

AUS Racquet Tournament

The American University in Sharjah Racquet Tournament for Tennis, Table Tennis and Badminton will be held between March 2nd and March 4th. Open to both men and women.

MAHE Dubai wins at UOWD Public Speaking Competition 2008

The University of Wollongong in Dubai that held its Public Speaking Competition 2008 yesterday, at the Knowledge Village, brought out the best of MAHE's public speakers, bagging laurels in varied categories.

The winners are as follows:

Story Telling - Original Category
Aakansha Singh (B.A.Media) - 2nd place

Story Telling - Traditional Category
Blassy Bobin (B.A. Media) - 2nd place

SHOOFtv Campus Visit

SHOOFtv is organising a campus tour and competition. They will conduct short (30-minute) video presentations, followed by a Q&A session with students.

Date: Monday, 25th February
Time: 1pm - 2pm
Venue: MAHE - Dubai Campus Auditorium

All media students who are interested in learning about SHOOFtv and becoming active participants of the channel are invited to attend.

The BITS Sports Festival is to be held in the first week of March. Confirmed dates will be announced next week.

Matches for women include:
Throwball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Badminton and Chess.

MAHE Dubai Quiz 2008 Winners

Five teams battled it out with their mind and intelligence as they competed in several exciting rounds to win the MAHE Dubai Campus Quiz held on 21 February 2008.

Quiz Master Kailash Menon and Curator Sabir Haque designed a series of challenging rounds complete with audio visual questions, which got the teams and the audience scrambling to spark their brain cells. Audience members had interesting prizes for answering questions passed on by the teams on stage.

In the end, Mir Hassan (BBA) and Keegan Gerald Pereira (Media) won the Quiz. Aakanksha Singh (Media) and Melissa Khan (Media) took the runners up position. Dr. B. Ramjee, Director, MAHE Dubai Campus presented the Winner's trophy and the Runner Up Trophy to the students.

As a special incentive for the winners and runners up, they were chosen to take part on another live radio quiz on the popular FM station 101.6 City FM, on February 22, 2008. The Quiz is being broadcast live on 101.6 FM from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. (U.A.E time). It can also be heard online through live streaming on their official website 101.6 City FM.

Timer keeper Ms. H. S. Shubha and Scorer Ms. Seena Biju did a good job despite being busy keeping up with the teams. Kailash Menon did an excellent job, revealing a new talent as Quiz Master other being a faculty member of the Fashion Department. Sabeer Haque supported the Quiz Master with the audio-visual rounds and the presentation.

The quiz was just the start of the first of several events being organized by the Student Services Officer Mrs. Uma Prasad. Watch this blog for more details on next week's event.
